DISCUSSION: At its September 5, 2024, meeting, the Board authorized the General Manager to execute a Purchase Order with FlowServe not to exceed $837,000 for procurement of a pump and motor backstock for critical water supply wells. On October 4, 2024, the District executed Purchase Order No. 2025-447 with FlowServe in the amount of $389,296.06 for procurement of a replacement pump and motor for Bayview Well, with estimated delivery in September 2025. On November 23, the submersible motor at Bayview Well (installed in 2008) failed to start. Eaton Drilling, LLC removed the pump and motor the week of December 2nd. Inspection by District staff indicated low motor resistance (50 times lower than acceptable) and the presence of water, suggesting failed seals. The motor will be rebuilt by a specialized contractor with an estimated delivery of March 2025. In the meantime, staff inquired with FlowServe about the possibility of expediting manufacturing and delivery of the replacement motor for Bayview Well, originally approved on September 5th. Flowserve will provide a quote and estimated lead time to the District by December 17, 2024. This will be presented to the Board for approval. If approved, the District will install the replacement motor in Bayview Well and maintain the original rebuilt motor as a backup to be used in the event of a failure.
